The setting is delightful: there is a small cafe, but if the weather is clement bring a picnic and sit on the lawn beside the river, feed the ducks and spot the trout making this a great "Where To Go For A Day Trip".
Buckler's Hard - so called because here the gravel extended to the river's edge - is where great oak ships where once built for the Royal Navy. The museum explains how they were built and also has a reconstruction of the 18th century New Inn and a labourer's cottage.
Stroll down to the water's edge, maybe stopping off in the the shipyard boss's house - now a pub. There's a 30 minute river cruise and for the energetic a 30 minute riverside walk to Beaulieu.
