Sutton HooIn 1935 Mrs Perry hired an archeologist, Mr Brown, to investigate some mounds in her field.
He discovered an undisturbed Anglo Saxon burial complete with grave goods:
someone very important, possibly the 7th century king of East Anglia, had been buried in a long boat,
a perfect imprint of which was preserved in the soil.
The exhibition and its evocative film tell of the Anglo Saxon settlers and the effect they had on England. You can also have a look round the ground floor of Mrs Perry's house (built 1910) and then set off for a pleasant walk to the burial mounds themselves. Very nice cafe. |map| |next attraction|
