Riviera LineIf you saw Michael Portillo's excellent Great British Railway Journeys on TV you'll have heard him waxing lyrical
about the Riviera Line. It's not a preserved-in-aspic steam railway but the main line from Exeter to Paignton.
For part of its length it runs along the sea wall and the views are delightful. Dawlish looks so inviting
you'll want to get off there whatever your actual destination.
Holidays in the west country can start with the stress of battling the traffic. But take the Riviera Line and the grin spreads across your face and your troubles melt away as Exeter recedes and the sea hoves into view. Sit on the left and take a slow, stopping train. |map| |next attraction| |
