Netley AbbeyEven though Netley Abbey is the most complete Cistercian monastery in Southern England,
Henry VIII in 1536 and its owner in 1700, who sold a lot of the stone for building material,
conspired to leave not a lot. But pop in for a look (it's free) if you're passing.
The Royal Victoria Country Park is just down the road and a great place for an afternoon in the sun. An eccentric chapel, now a shop, survives from the demolished 19th century Royal Victoria Hospital. The Park also boasts a little narrow gauge railway, woodland walks and great views over Southampton Water. |map| |next attraction|
