Arundel CastleIf you think Arundel Castle is just a Victorian mock-castle, think again.
The motte dates from 1068, the gatehouse from 1070 and the perfectly-preserved keep from the 12th century.
The main body of the castle was extensively redeveloped in the 18th and 19th centuries.
There is plenty to see. The Victorian remodelling gives much of the interior a country house feel, though however many country houses you have visited you will be wowed by the magnificant Edwardian library. The castle keep is properly medieval. All this and lovely gardens too. |map| |next attraction| |
